Slovenia is a beautiful country. We decided to visit Ljubljana and take a day trip to Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj. Both lakes are very picturesque.
Lake Bled
Lake Bled is situated in the heart of the Julian Alps and is completely wheelchair accessible. The turquoise-blue water and the church on Bled Island give this place a fairy-tale look. The castle overlooking the lake adds to the panoramic view. Wooden boats called Pletna can take you to the island, offering breathtaking views of the snow-capped Julian Alps and the castle.
Wheelchair Accessibility ♿️ ♿️
- The Lake Bled Loop is completely wheelchair accessible with a smooth path and many ramps.
- The Pletna boats are not fully accessible for wheelchair users due to boarding steps and limited space. It can be managed with some assistance, but enjoying the stunning views from accessible viewpoints is recommended.
- There is accessible parking near Hotel Jadran where security allows parking with a placard.
- Bled Island’s church is not wheelchair accessible, nor is Bled Castle for viewing the lake from above. However, you can drive to Bled Castle where there are some accessible parking spaces in front.
Lake Bohinj
Lake Bohinj is a glacial lake located in Slovenia’s Bohinj Valley of the Julian Alps. The entire loop around the lake is drivable. This lake looks stunning with crystal-clear waters surrounded by towering mountains and lush green forests. Visitors can go hiking, swimming, boating, and simply enjoy the serene natural beauty.
Wheelchair Accessibility ♿️ ♿️
- Lake Bohinj offers various opportunities for activities, but for wheelchair users, driving the loop and enjoying nature from different viewpoints is most suitable. There are many accessible parking spots along the loop and some in front of the church.
To ensure a smooth visit, it’s recommended to contact local tour operators or the Bled Tourist Information Centre in advance to inquire about accessibility options and discuss any specific needs or arrangements. While Bled Island may present challenges for wheelchair users due to its historical and natural setting, with proper planning and information
